What is it about!?
I received this Gem of a ‘spirituality and Humanity’ book a few weeks after its release last year. Needless to say this Review or impressions blog post is embarrassingly over due. In my defense I am still savoring the book, it’s not a story, piece of fiction or self help guide I can breeze through like a crash course and emerge wiser or better equipped at life on the other end. It is a book which presents a way of life, filled to the brim no doubt overflowing at times with nuggets of life lessons & happiness.
It is the story of an Icon, community leader, a person who is in the least reluctant to be spoken highly of. He gives and gives and gives, Pune is evident of it and the biggest testimonial to his humble and giving nature with the unforgettable smiling face of his. He is revered and addressed with many a praiseworthy titles to which he bows his head and reluctantly accepts with gratitude and a childlike smile filled with wonder on his 98 year old face. I am witness to it so I can claim all these rare qualities in a spiritual leader of my community to be true.
Sindhi community would not be the same, Pune would not be the same without Sadhu Vaswani Mission. The mission is lead by the dynamic leader Dada Jashan Vaswani, he under the guidance of his spiritual master, Sadhu TL Vaswani and the army of patrons and volunteers at the mission have given Pune and the world a spiritual haven right in the middle of the chaos of a bustling city. The mission has also given Pune the St. Mira’s educational institute for Girls which is a much loved and appreciated institute in itself when it comes to girl students across different religions in the city and the country.
The title refers to Dada J P Vaswani as a reluctant master, he explains it with a refreshing simplicity of him being of service to the mission as an offering to his late master and all human folk without any discrimination. He serves humanity with the mission’s various activities, welcoming patrons to the mission’s for a number of spiritual days throughout the year. It serves and helps the less fortunate on a regular basis. There is so much the mission does even when it’s not trying. You have to know and be part of some of these activities to feel the happiness and calm of spirituality.
I am glad I took time to know the back story of not only the mission’s leader but the mission itself. An added advantage of taking my own sweet time is the short videos on the mission’s you tube channel of conversations between the author Ruzbeh and Dada. The conversations which provided the author, Ruzbeh with material to write this fantastic book. If you want a sneak peek or are short on time and need a quick fix go watch the videos and take time to ponder on some deep thoughts.
My humble request in this blog post is for you to get the book, subscribe to the mission’s you tube channel and get on your way to some healing and calm. And if or when you are in Pune do visit the mission and experience a piece of calm and peace of my community’s pride. Also, if you happen to be in Pune on a Tuesday evening do attend the free guided meditation at the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, 6:45 to 7:45 PM.
Disclaimer: Your religion does not play a role, you just have to be a human being to read this book and benefit from it.
