It’s a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman in possession of a good job, four bossy sisters and a needy cat must also have want of her one true love. Isn’t it?

Another delightful novel from the author of THE LITTLE BOOKSHOP OF LONELY HEARTS. Perfect for fans of Lucy Diamond and Jenny Colgan

Verity Love – Jane Austen fangirl and an introvert in a world of extroverts – is perfectly happy on her own (thank you very much) and her fictional boyfriend Peter is very useful for getting her out of unwanted social events. But when a case of mistaken identity forces her to introduce a perfect stranger as her boyfriend, Verity’s life suddenly becomes much more complicated.

Johnny could also use a fictional girlfriend. Against Verity’s better judgement, he persuades her to partner up for a summer season of weddings, big number birthdays and garden parties, with just one promise – not to fall in love with each other…

My thoughts

True Love at the Lonely Hearts Bookshop the book’s title sounds heavenly for true blue bookworms. Then there’s the Jane Austen heavy reference, not only the main lead Verity is the middle one of 5 sisters but she also loves Pride and Prejudice. She can quote from the classic in her sleep and has one ready for most occasions.

A lead character in a bookshop selling Romantic fiction exclusively, quoting Pride and Prejudice, from a vibrant family of 5 sisters fathered by a jolly Vicar, what’s not to love. She even manages to get a Darcy like hero of her own.

Verity Love, the name itself starts off the story on a good note. Then come the other bookshop employees aka the friends of Verity who are a great bunch of supporting characters. Its never a dull chapter whenever one or all of the other 4 sisters make an appearance. Our Darcy drama comes from Johnny True, see another name that is so quirky and kitschy – esque. He is the one who fulfills the role of the Hero, friend, love interest and all the non family drama in the quiet, introvert Verity’s life.

All the Pride and Prejudice references, a contemporary setting with very modern day dilemmas faced by the most millennials is what makes this a fantastic read and a treat for Pride and Prejudice fans.
