The brand new novel from the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Queen of Wishful Thinking – a gorgeous read full of love, life and laughter.
Marnie Salt has made so many mistakes in her life that she fears she will never get on the right track. But when she ‘meets’ an old lady on a baking chatroom and begins confiding in her, little does she know how her life will change.
Arranging to see each other for lunch, Marnie finds discovers that Lilian is every bit as mad and delightful as she’d hoped – and that she owns a whole village in the Yorkshire Dales, which has been passed down through generations. And when Marnie needs a refuge after a crisis, she ups sticks and heads for Wychwell – a temporary measure, so she thinks.
But soon Marnie finds that Wychwell has claimed her as its own and she is duty bound not to leave. Even if what she has to do makes her as unpopular as a force 12 gale in a confetti factory! But everyone has imperfections, as Marnie comes to realise, and that is not such a bad thing – after all, your flaws are perfect for the heart that is meant to love you.
The Perfectly Imperfect Woman is the heart-warming and hilarious new novel from the queen of feel-good fiction – a novel of family, secrets, love and redemption … and broken hearts mended and made all the stronger for it.
Marnie Salt is the type of character you will love, identify with her and you’d also at times boo at her. All in all, Marnie, the perfectly imperfect woman will make a place in your heart by the end of the story.
Marnie is a city gal, heading a department at a beverages company. She is a lady boss, fair co worker, while professionally she is doing great as is the cliche her personal life isn’t all rosy.
She has a dysfunctional family, a less than noteworthy love life and her friends well they aren’t very friendly to her at the best of times. You see how chaotic it seems right, but then there’s cheesecakes, the saving grace or the order in Marnie’s chaotic life.
The scrumptious cakes lead her to Lillian who leads her to a path which will see Marnie sort out her chaos and fill it with the sweetness of cheesecakes.
This path is in a village named Wychwell, which has its own history, mysteries and is a solace for Marnie’s hurt soul. As the village’s mystery and Marnie’s life cross paths there is friendships, gossip, cakes, hunky gardeners, a village Fest. There’s a lot going on in the story leading up to the end where a new future awaits not only Marnie but the village people around her too.
I enjoyed every page of this story and didn’t want it to end. There was warmth from the friendships, community, drama from the town gossips and a loving caring, romantic vibe from the hunky gardener. The village’s past was unraveled and secrets revealed, past wrongs put right. There was never a moment when the characters seem to lead a boring, slow village life. Which is what made it a great read.
The cheesecakes, abundant berries and various home brewed wines were like cherry on the top of an already deliciously laden cake. The friendships in this story really were a vital part, they were glorious in their flaws and perfection alike. Lillian was a great character equal parts crazy, wise and so much fun. She was pleasure to read. The warmth of the various people in the story kept the terrible past, griefs from overwhelming and acting downers.
If you want to settle down for a relaxing time with tea, cakes and sink into a story go get The perfectly imperfect woman now and enjoy it like I did.
