Profession of lead characters: Pizzeria owner, Bridal Boutique owner.

Dueling neighbors, baby fever, fake boyfriends, and pizza… Life in Bliss has never been better!

Pepper Blue wants a baby. Forget the husband. She’s better at training men to be good husbands for other women than she is at getting one herself, so she’s doing this on her own.

But she hasn’t exactly shared the news with her family, and they’re determined to find her a date to the next family wedding. A date that won’t leave with one of her sisters or cousins. This time.

Which means Pepper Blue needs a fake boyfriend. A fake boyfriend that she has no chance of actually falling in love with. A fake boyfriend like her obnoxious neighbor.

Tony Cross is a pizza god with a sausage problem. He’s putting on a good show—a different woman at his house every night, flirting with all the right customers, flexing his muscles when called upon—but since his divorce, his meat has been more on the undercooked side. If you know what he means.

Except, unfortunately, when it comes to his annoyingly perfect, always put together, too good for him neighbor. Pepper Blue. Who is not a viable candidate for fixing his “little problem.”

So he’s not sure why he’s coming to her rescue, pretending to be her boyfriend to save her from a bad date at his pizza joint. He just knows it’s fun. And it irritates her. And it turns out, she might be able to help his flagging pizza sales as much as she’s helping his flagging… you know.

So long as this is just business, he’s happy to keep pushing her buttons.

All night long, if he has to.

My thoughts

A trip to Bliss, the wedding capital of America, this time around gives us a front seat viewing of Pepper Blue and Tony Cross coming together.

Pepper is co owner of the town’s Bridal shop and Tony is the newest shop owner in town. She is part of a big family with close to a dozen siblings, Tony has quite a few of siblings too.

He is starting anew in Bliss escaping the aftermath of his divorce and nosy family. Pepper, in the past has been unlucky in love so all she wants now is her very own family with or without a man in her life. Tony is keeping up appearances of being a playboy but is gun shy ever since his divorce until he meets Pepper.

Proper, stubborn, strict looking Pepper is Tony’s neighbor but they haven’t being very friendly or neighborly to one another.

He would rather not cross paths with his uptight neighbor. That is until one night he is on pizza delivery duty and comes across his neighbor looking all relaxed and fun in the midst of her equally relaxed and sloshed siblings and a very upbeat grandmother. To say he wasn’t feeling any kind of shy but hot and bothered by Pepper would be an understatement. He is attracted to her strongly.

Soon with a nosy and interfering grandmother Pepper and Tony start dating for appearances. With all the friendly dating they come close and realize they would be better off giving each to her an actual chance and make a go for a relationship. Will Pepper’s streak of bad luck end or Tony remain gun shy?

Spiced is a very good story with a lot happening in it, given there are atleast half a dozen characters in action at a time. All makes sense as Pepper, the lead is a perfectionist and makes sure even the chaos around her seems logical. The two leads in the story have strong, independent personalities with a hidden adorable vulnerability about them.

I enjoyed seeing them together as they are very matter of fact about their weaknesses. They help each other with their issues and give in to their attraction without brooding on it.

With a great line up siblings and family with a very strong, spunky and hilarious grandmother Spiced was a riot. I enjoyed grandma’s antics and efforts to get Pepper and herself a date. She is great at bossing around her brood and equally unapologetic when playing pranks on everyone around her.

The love and romance is touching, heart warming with Tony and Pepper facing ups and downs like champs. They give each other everything that is part of a happy, healthy relationship.

If you have read the other books in the Misfit Brides series you will enjoy Pepper’s story and get to meet the other couples in the series again. If you are looking for a new small town, tight knit community series to start this is a great one to look into.
