Marriage of Inconvenience, an all new standalone in the USA Today bestselling, romantic comedy Knitting in the City Series by Penny Reid, is coming March 6th!

There are three things you need to know about Kat Tanner (aka Kathleen Tyson. . . and yes, she is *that* Kathleen Tyson): 1) She’s determined to make good decisions, 2) She must get married ASAP, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Being a billionaire heiress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it sucks. Determined to live a quiet life, Kat Tanner changed her identity years ago and eschewed her family’s legacy. But now, Kat’s silver spoon past has finally caught up with her, and so have her youthful mistakes. To avoid imminent disaster, she must marry immediately; it is essential that the person she chooses have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever and be completely trustworthy.

Fortunately, she knows exactly who to ask. Dan O’Malley checks all the boxes: single, romantically indifferent to her, completely trustworthy. Sure, she might have a wee little crush on Dan the Security Man, but with clear rules, expectations, and a legally binding contract, Kat is certain she can make it through this debacle with her sanity—and heart—all in one piece.

Except, what happens when Dan O’Malley isn’t as indifferent—or as trustworthy—as she thought?

My thoughts

Marriage of Inconvenience is Kathleen and Daniel’s story. One is a not so vocal heiress to billions, shy, introvert yet a fierce, sharp, calm person in the worst of the times.
Daniel is Dan, the security man. He is of Irish origin, tall, handsome hunk who is smart, looks very pleasing to the eyes and the other sensitive parts of a human anatomy.

He also, curses, swears which I read online that some people found offensive. So before I tell you my feelings about Kat and Dan’s story, I will say this the cursing is hilarious when you read the whole story and not just the first few pages.

At the best of times on the story, the cussing is hilarious, adorable, doesn’t mean I am supporting it more than we, i e humans in the non fictional world, curse and swear ourselves. We all do it so lets just enjoy it and see it for it is in the story’s context.

Kat and Dan have common friends, they spend quite a fair amount of time together as part of the group. Her friends and his friend’s girlfriend which is Janie, one of Kat’s friend and part of their weekly knitting group. They are an integral part in each other’s lives. Trust me their friendship is aspirational and will leave you wanting to have your own similar group.

They have been always attracted to each other but never acted on it. Dan’s being a gentleman and giving shy, quiet Kat space while he wants for the right moment to ask her out. Kat worships him, crushes hard on him but from a distance and only with her friend Steven as witness.

A chance courtesy a devious family member makes Kat take a serious decision one which sees her in search of a husband. She is seeking someone to protect her in the eyes of law by being her husband and besides Steven her options are very limited. And when Steven states his reasons to deny her and suggest Dan, the security man as an option things finally happen for the secret admirers.

They get married and work backwards to every thing they kept meaning to having as part of a relationship. It is a journey full of passion, humor, supporting and bringing out the best in each other.

  • What I loved about the story is the characters, their personalities and sense of humor.
  • Friendships and loyalty are an integral part of their group dynamic, which is another favorite thing of mine about it.
  • The sense of humor is ACE, there were times I was laughing hard enough too clutch my sides and actually take a break from reading it.
  • The smart part of the romance, a trademark of Penny Reid’s writing, comes from the common sense, smartness of the characters, not just the leads but of all the supporting characters in the story. You will see and love that in this and other stories by the author.

To sum it up Marriage of Inconvenience is a lovely romance with a nerdy, hot heroine and a hunky hero who are smart, will make you laugh, feel like a part of their group and throw in plenty of swoony kisses, random intelligent facts your way. I was sad that the Story ended as I was too busy enjoying it.
