Polly Nightingale never meant to fall in love again especially not with a biker thirteen years her junior. But then Jago Solomon enters her life with a guitar strapped to his back, and Polly and her six-year-old son, Archie, know that they’ve never been happier.
But what happened three years ago when Polly’s husband, Sean, went missing? And what will it mean for Polly and Jago if her past ever catches up with them?
In Rules for a Successful Book Club we follow Polly Nightingale’s story. Polly’s husband abandons her and their 3 year old suddenly, without any note or trace. In this book we see how Polly deals with abandonment, anger and past abuse as she tries to move on once she starts falling for her neighbor Jago Solomon.
Things I liked –
The maturity with which Jago handles his budding relationship with Polly and her family.
Archie, Polly’s son is six and full of energy. His innocence, enthusiasm and many spontaneous moments provide lighthearted, good humor during heavy, sad moments of the story.
Though Polly is part of the book loving family and works at her family’s all 3 bookshops this story focuses more on Polly and Jago which I enjoyed reading.
The Book Club provided a nice retreat for Polly and Jago, some me time for them separate from Archie and other heavy parts of their lives. The story captures well the popularity and love for book clubs, a very suitable title for the story.
