Story. I guess you could say I was a damsel in distress, and he was my knight in shining armor.

But more accurately, I was a girl with a lot of bad luck, and he was a guy with a lot of muscles and tattoos.

Jude “Lucky” Lucketti wasn’t just a sexy, brooding construction worker. He was my own personal hero who seemed to be in all the right places at the right times. Like when my car broke down and I needed a ride home, and when I face planted on the sidewalk right in front of him and had to be taken to the emergency room.

Those weren’t exactly my best moments, but they were his.

We became friends, and it didn’t matter that he was sixteen years older than me. We had a lot in common—like our love of old rock music and vintage fast cars, and our aversion to relationships.

When he approached me with a crazy idea to help me out, I couldn’t say no.

The arrangement was supposed to be temporary. A marriage on paper and nothing else.

It should’ve been easy, but it wasn’t.

Because here I am, eighteen years-old, still in high school, and married to a man I was never supposed to fall in love with.

We had just one rule—no kissing the bride.

But we broke that rule, and it sealed our fate forever.

My thoughts

Don’t Kiss the Bride follows the lives of Skylar and Jude. Theirs is an age gap romance if you have read Carian Cole’s previous books you will know she does a lot of justice to this sub genre of books. I have read all her books and one of my favourite is an earlier age gap romance from her titled Torn. It was the first book of hers that I picked up that I’ve read, re-read and loved ever since.

In this story we see how an innocent almost a meet cute moment brings Skylar and Jude together and after that they just keep running into each other. Jude, physically fits the description of a bad boy, dangerous villain solely based on his looks. However, we have time and again seen in modern fiction especially in biker, musician etc romances that the quintessential bad boy is today’s anti hero. Jude maybe wrong to some in paper however he is everything we want our romantic partner to be, he doesn’t disappoint a bit.

What starts as a random act of kindness, a good deed Jude does to help Skylar out of her rubbish home situation turns into a natural, organic, beautiful story of friendship, love and simple good decent human behaviour. This is a romance at it’s core story and the plot has that in spades. We see everything from platonic chill out sessions to intense caring and some fantastic chemistry between the pair.

The emotions of conflict, hot cold mood swings, issues like abandonment, sadness and being lonely are so well integrated into the characters that we don’t pity for them but definitely resonate and feel camaraderie with these beautiful, a bit emotionally damaged souls. The book also deals with an eating disorder which makes sense as part of the story and is not just thrown into for some angle. It was really nerve racking but equally heartwarming to see the characters deal with it.

Don’t Kiss the Bride is a story which made me felt heard, it spoke to me and gave me the rare feeling of being understood, some sunshine and hope of drems too. It is a story sure to give you the warm fuzzy feelings if you give it a chance and read it with an open mind after all age is just numbers.
